While we are anxiously waiting for our first shipment I want to tell you something about us, rum and things that lead to this idea of ours.
Like maybe many or the most of you until a certain, later age I did not spend many thoughts on rum.
I knew it exists, is part of some cocktails and of the famous or infamous Cuba Libre. That’s about it.
This all changed back in, I believe, 2016 while I was living in Hungary. Not especially famous and known for its rum,
still some enthusiasts were living there and held a Rum & Cigar (and Tequila) tasting.
A colleague of mine more or less dragged me to this eye opening event.
What a portal to a totally unknown world I had found!
Since then I occasionally taste my way through the vast universe of rums. Now, by any means I do not call myself an expert nor
a purist even after this long time.
It also became clear very quickly that my favorites types of rum drinks would be soft, mild and sweet.
And I freely admit I don’t mind added sugar. More about this topic and why rum is sometimes and somewhere not called
rum (anymore) in a separate post. But we all have our preferences, our own taste and it changes, it’s a process not a fixed state.
From time to time a good dry rum as a counterweight is very welcomed.
Now, why rum in Uruguay?
Well, the question for me was rather why no rum in Uruguay? I dramatize a bit as there certainly is rum available here
but not so many and not the kinds I favor. This was obvious the first time we was here back in 2024, during our first
visit to Uruguay. I knew that this is gonna be what I want to change.
And how I want to do this is like I came to rum myself: by sharing this passion and showing others
what a wonderful, rich world of rum exists.
But, and this is also very important, I do not need to start at zero. Uruguay has already a history with rum.
There even was local, uruguayan rums not so long ago. This needs to be reawakend, maybe someone will be brave and
crazy enough and make his own rum once again here in this lovely country.
And so, a journey has begun. A journey like for so many things in life. Or, like life itself, right?
Let’s see where it goes and I hope you will join this journey if only for a little while.
